We are seeking a Library Assistant: Circulation Manager. This position works in collaboration with the Circulation Coordinator and team to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the Circulation Department. Managing a large staff and a multitude of varied services requires competence in delegating authority and the ability to plan and to adapt to a changing work environment. The System will hire an experienced, responsible, creative, and enthusiastic individual who embraces and thrives in an active, fast-paced, culturally diverse environment. The Circulation Supervisor reports to the Circulation Coordinator.

High school diploma or equivalent is required, with college degree preferred. At least two years’ experience working with the public is required. Library experience is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following are normal, but not exclusive or all-inclusive, expectations for this job. Other duties of a similar nature or level may be required as assigned and job assignments may change in the future, including night and weekend work assignments.
- Supervises the daily operations of the Circulation Department.
- Manages and performs materials circulation duties.
- Provides direct customer service to library patrons, assisting with their information questions, readers’ advisory, and circulation needs.
- Upholds all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement; monitors and responds to safety and security of library patrons and campus; reports situations according to outlined procedures.
- Enforces policies and trains staff on proper procedures. Recommends adaptations to policy as needed.
- Receives, reviews, and adjusts to patron complaints.
- Responsible for basic circulation financial matters: handling cash, check and credit card payments received; waive fines/fees.
- Provides support in many areas of daily library operations, including the following: opening and closing the library; basic facility maintenance; organizing and re-shelving materials; accepting fees and fines; routing holds, loans, and information; materials processing; performing basic office duties including answering telephones.
- Assists with patron use of meeting rooms according to policy and established procedures.

- Ability to exercise good judgment and make independent and critical decisions using established procedures and practices.
- Personal computer proficiency and the ability to use, understand, and assist patrons with various computer applications.
- Knowledge of basic library operational principles and practices and application of ARLS and branch policies, procedures, and activities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate successfully with patrons and staff.
